Scotch 82/SCC of 1982 Wraps 2018

EQUAL CHIEF EDITORS REPORT

It was put to me, very early in Annual Get-together talks, that it is OSCA's understanding that the (ONLY?) reason people don't turn up to 10 Year Reunions, is because of non-decade Reunions being held ie. 5 year reunions. So far, after speaking with numerous of our Classmates, there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that Classmates decisions to show up, or not show up, to 10 Year Reunions are varied.  More OSCA Resources are needed to systematically determine how many reasons might be common across all Year Groups, imho (Mick Arnott).

This year's Equal Chief Editors Report highlights EXPECTATIONS & RESULTS, and all Classmates are consider Equal Chief Editors of our Scotch 82/Scotch College Class of 1982 End of Year Wraps.

Scotch 82 Classmates have certain Expectations of what we can achieve as a year using Social Media, and in particular facebook Pages and Groups.  "Scotch 82 Wraps 2018" aims to help Classmates reflect on some the Results we've been able to achieve, since 2012, with the help of previous editions End of Year Wraps (see below).

Please take a look at the graphic above , which contains part of OSCA's 2015 - 2020 Strategic Plan that "... seeks to promote the advancement and welfare of the School and Old Boys", and under Priority 2 "Engaging and supporting Old Boys", Activity A "Helping Old Boys access career, pastoral and/or financial assistance", has been enlarged and highlighted to think about (or see the complete OSCA Strategic Plan here -> https://oscanet.com.au/vic/scotch/uploads/files/OSCA_Annual_Report_2018_5%20FINAL.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2_yALylR07ltYTlupHBvw3_EKfWssyzb_RJWNmeEJNtCJozl5zhereUPE).

In conjunction with OSCA Councillor, Andrew Wilson, we were able to set up a "Virtual Campfire" using a facebook (Secret) Group called: "Scotch 82 Friendship Group", which flowed on from the Proposal of our Scotch 82 facebook website/page.  The Group Proposal has been covered in previous Scotch 82 End of Year Wraps, and Pastoral Care and Support expectations arouse from Members of the Group, who have said they need their Classmates Support.

I would like to point out a misunderstanding that OSCA delegated certain Pastoral Care Responsibilities to Year Group OSCA Representatives, in addition to those of our OSCA Year Group Reunion Committee, however, this year it has been clarified by OSCA that there has been major changes in their OSCA Representative Roles, since 2013.

Our year has asked some great questions, and from as early as 2012, we've been willing to seek out OSCA about Pastoral Care Responsibilities, to help clarify what can be Expected.

Curiosity, if nothing else, has brought about some Results, like being able to bringing together our our Scotch 82 Guidelines.  See our Scotch Album, here ->  https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/photos/?tab=album&album_id=760134317451272),

A Working Knowledge of how Pastoral Care is related to 10 Year Reunions, had not been common to our year's facebook Pages and Groups' Proposers, Seconders, and vast majority of Scotch 82's Group Members.  Hence, Social Media has improved the dissemination of this knowledge to a greater number of our Classmates.

The Scotch 82 Friendship Group (a kind of"Virtual Campfire" like Support Group) was a joint OSCA/Scotch 82 arrangement, which stemmed in large part from a need for a greater working knowledge of how OSCA is tackling Mens Health related issues.

Subsequently, it is now up to Group members to take a fresh look at what OSCA can do to help them access Scotch Family Support, and related Men's Health professionals to meet their needs, and during the year we took a look at Exploring Scotch Family Pastoral Care

A second look at the graphic above illustrates how "Action Requests" have lead to "Action Planning", and it's helpful to try to know what is Expected of our Classmates, in terms of providing feedback to OSCA.

At Scotch College, those who pursued Leadership Roles gained lots of experience from Planning Activities ie. in Scouts, Cadets, Social Services, etc. and the extent we where able to make plans depended on what Role we were given.

The effectiveness of how we, as a year, have been willing to make plans with OSCA, that also help to create a greater working knowledge of the Support Roles Classmates are able to play, is reflected by the involvement of my OSCA Mentor, Andrew Wilson, and our OSCA Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer, in reviewing our Plans for our Annual BBQ/Campfire.

Finally, this year has seen the beginning of being able to functionally integrate our Transitional Scotch College Class of 1982 & Scotch 82 facebook pages, following the Announcement of our "Scotch College Class of 1982 vs Scotch 82 Likes Cup" Winner.

Scotch 82 Classmates' preferences for Posts, as a factor of our 1970's and 1980's based understanding of Scotish Egalitarianism, will be given consideration in this our new "Scotch 82 Analytics" blog (see Scotch 82 Analytics & Posting Guide below).

Additionally, we have updated our "Scotch 82 Q & A" blog, in 2018, so as to further help answer our Classmates frequently asked questions about how the Scotch Family works (http://scotch82qandabloglink.blogspot.com.au/)!

PREVIOUS END OF YEAR WRAPS SECTION

Will our Scotch 82 Social Media Initiative continue to be a great way to help Communication within our year, and with OSCA, for those who have been struggling to Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022?

More on this Scotch 82 Initiative here -> https://scotch82wrap2014.blogspot.com/

It is my expectation that this time next year, those of our Classmates wanting to be involved in our Scotch 82 Social Media Adventure will have a much clearer understanding of what is Expected of them, or what Role they can play, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022!

yours sincerely,

Mick Arnott
Equal Chief Editor

WELCOME

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our Scotch 82 End of Year Wrap for 2018!

This year's Wrap name might be shortened from "Scotch 82/Scotch College Class Wraps 2018" to "Scotch 82 Wraps 2018" to help reflect that we have a Winner of our "Scotch 82 vs Scotch College Class of 1982 Likes Cup" most Inclusive facebook page name competition.

"Scotch 82" has taken out the Cup for receiving the most Likes, and therefore has been voted the Most Inclusive name possible (following the close of name nominations in December 2016) by our Classmates, along with those from our Scotch Family who had the chance to vote as well.  For more on the 9 month long Cup results, please follow the link to our facebook page Post by clicking the caption on the graphic above

Scotch 82 Financial Report - No Debt!

Our Scotch 82 facebook Pages/Groups are funded by the kind and loving voluntary contributions of Classmates who give selflessly of their time and personal financial resources, to ensure we are able to advance our Friendship based Pastoral Care approach.

We have had a very big year of activity to help address the Expectation of Classmates to be involved with Equal Opportunity in the Pastoral Care and Support of our year, as described in our "Equal Admins - Chief Editors Report", above.

Scotch 82 Trust, Reformat, Guidelines, and Functional Integration

Our 2015, 2016, and 2017 End of Year Wraps highlight how we made a request to OSCA for their Policies and Procedures for running a "Scotch College Class of 1982" facebook page, and what planning steps we have taken action on.

OSCA's shared their "Trust" Principal, which in turn lead to a Reformat of our Scotch 82 facebook page, to include "Scotch 82 Guidelines", and now we have commenced a "Functional Integration of Our facebook pages Scotch 82 & Scotch College Class of 1982", which will conclude in May 2019.

Having now started to functionally integrate our Transitional "Scotch College Class of 1982" facebook page albums with Scotch 82's albums, means we are currently reviewing the albums we have on both pages.

Therefore, it's an opportune time for you to think about any of our Scotch 82 albums, which you appear in.  If you are happy for these albums to continue in their current format, then there's no need to message me.

Otherwise, please let me know your thoughts!  Thanks everyone!  email -> Scotch82blogs@gmail.com

Scotch 82 "Our Story"

https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/1382361848561846/?type=3&theater

facebook helps Scotch 82 Reformat....
2017 and 2018 have seen our "Scotch 82 Reformat", as outlined in our "2016 End of Year Wrap", unfold using a Prototyping Method...
We've listened to what our Classmates have to say, and what OSCA has had to say too, and we've gone about answering the Call to Communicate as part of the Scotch Family, using a Social Media format (or platform)!
There's been heartache, joy, love, prayers, big and little requests, etc, but we've kept it together to grow as friends!!
"Our Story" is a new facebook feature, and we'll continue to make our story the best possible one we can, as head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022.
Before our Story is complete, every Classmate now has an opportunity to add something to "Our Story", via our "2018 End of Year Wrap" too, and then in 2019 we will update the new "Our Story" section on our facebook page.
Add your thoughts on our facebook Post (see graphic link above), or please private message Scotch82blogs@gmail.com if you prefer!!
Thank's Scotch 82 Social Media Adventurers!!
Our Scotch 82 Reformat is almost done, we will speak with one voice again on the one facebook page in 2019.

As we merrily Prototype along, our Classmates have found enormous courage to speak up about their Pastoral Care needs.

Australian Men are adjusting to speaking up as away of addressing their feelings of being restricted sometimes by a Stiff Upper Lip approach, and Scotch 82 has not shied away from the fact that we might not be able to talk to the Old Scotch Collegians' Association about every thing, for various personal reasons.

So lets keep talking to each other as a Positive Affirmation that we have extremely well trained and experience friends who care about us, in our year...

"Scotch 82 Medical" (click the graphic link) is one such way of helping meet those needs our Classmates are being upfront and honest about! Thank-you very much to our Year's Medical Professionals for helping our year Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022 (The Big One)!! <3 :-)

"Scotch 82 Legal" (click the graphic link) is one such way of helping meet those concerns our Classmates are being straight forward about! Thank-you very much to our Year's Legal Professionals for helping our year Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022 (The Big One)!! <3 :-)

Honouring Jim and Andy for Your Support & Care

Functional Integration of our Transitional "Scotch College Class of 1982" facebook page albums with our "Scotch 82" facebook page albums has involved becoming aware of Pastoral Care and Support aspects of OSCA's 2015 to 2020 Strategy (please see the graphic in our Equal Chief Editors Report, above).

We've Honoured Andy and Jim on our Scotch 82 facebook page (see 30 August 2018 Post ->  https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.408770385921002/1319273264870705/?type=3&theater), and have taken steps to ensure those who Liked our Transitional Scotch College Class of 1982 Care & Support Album are aware of these changes.

Needless to say, we owe Jim and Andy an enormous debt of Gratitude for helping out when their was no easily identifiable Social Media related Pastoral Care Plan in place for our year, prior to 2015.

OSCA's Website -> http://oscanet.com.au/ lists all the Clubs, Events, and Pastoral Care Activities that form their Pastoral Care approach, and OSCA's Annual Reports ->  http://oscanet.com.au/#annualreports/ go into further detail about how these all relate to OSCA's Articles of Association.

OSCA Collegians, Chaplain, Scotch 82 Support

OSCA's "Life Transitions", supported by OSCA Collegians, along with our OSCA (Honourary) Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer, and OSCA's Executive Director, Scott Montgomery, now take over from Jim Glaspole and Andrew Evans, as our Scotch 82 Support Album's main Support Contacts.

BBQ/Campfire 2018 Annual Get-together

Our BBQ/Campfire host for 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015, Andrew Evans, has become a Grandfather for the first time.  Congratulation Andy on the safe arrival of  Grandson, Lenny, and for being in Canada, when he was born, to support Josh Evans and partner Trish, at the Maternity Ward.

Andy has been an outstanding and extremely generous BBQ/Campfire Host and Venue Provider, and this year we decided to make a conscious effort to ensure all costs for the night were covered, except for his Business Class Airline ticket back from Canada, via the USA!!  Hahahaha!

Andy's dedication to Support and Care for our Classmates has been exceptional, as demonstrated by him allowing us to use his Property for 4 years running, which is a tangible testament to his Support for our year!! Cameron Cantley-Smith's efforts this year also need acknowledging, as Cam provided an outstanding service ensuring last minute Menu and Venue Preparations where put into action.

A big "THANK-YOU" goes out to "Team Roscrow", made up of Husband and Wife Team Bruce and Kerry, in appreciation of your Pavlova Rolls, which made a delectable contribution to festivities in 2018, as well as in 2017 (or so I've been reassured).  As a sign of our affection, it's been deemed appropriate to award Team Roscrow our first ever Blue Ribbon, for Dessert.

A Special Mention goes out for Victor Lee's King Prawn Salad, delivered and escorted safely in his Google Drive enabled passenger vehicle, from which Victor also produced his Drone.  The Drone, with it's Flight providing some high acceleration entertainment, especially as it ascended very quickly to a high altitude position over the Mornignton Peninsula, recorded a glorious sunset and picture of the Bitter Ranch!

Scotch 82 Businesses & Pleasure - Scotch 82 Insta

In our Scotch 82 Business Group, this year, we took a look at how facebook owns Instagram, and the Planning that Mark Zuckerberg (facebook's co-Found and Chief Executive Officer) has put in place for helping the two Social Media platforms stay compatible with each other, whilst providing identifiable features more suitable for mobile phone trends, including dedicated applications that suit both Business and Pleasure.

Our Classmates are frequently using Social Media to communicate on both facebook and Instagram, and often use the share functionality between the two, interchangeably.  Instagram User Names can sometimes be a little cryptic, but that's okay, because we all need to be creative in how we go about using Social Media to it's full potential, and Creativity is at the heart of how Scotch 82 Social Media initiatives have been about helping build Friendships, Inclusiveness, and Equality!!

Scotch82Insta, our year's presence on Instagram, will therefore continue to reflect this Business and Pleasure capability option, at least until we reach Milestone 3, as we continue to Analyse what kind of Posts are best helping reflect our Classmate's needs, and that of OSCA's Pastoral Care planning, as we continue on our Social Media Adventure together.

LINK SCOTCH 82 FACEBOOK TO SCOTCH 82 INSTAGRAM??

Nope, we haven't decided that yet!!

If you have any thoughts or ideas for linking our "Scotch 82 facebook" page to "Scotch82Insta", then please join in the discussion in our Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group, or our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group.

We have a number of our Classmates on Instagram that you might like to (re-)connect with, so our year's current Instagram profile "Scotch 82 Instagram" is following our Classamtes on Instagram.

If you like the idea of our year having an ongoing Profile on Instagram, where we can follow Classmates Personal and Business Profiles, then please message me on Instagram -> https://www.instagram.com/mick.arnott/ or https://www.instagram.com/scotch82insta/ to Second the idea.

At the present time we are following (or have requested to follow) approximately 60 separate Classmates Personal and/or Business Profiles that you can connect with, in line with OSCA's Strategic Plan for the giving and receiving of Pastoral Care between Old Boys, using Social Media (see below).

THANK-YOU CAMERON CANTLEY-SMITH OUR GROUP ADMIN!!

On behalf of our year, I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big "THANK-YOU!!" to our Scotch 82 Businesses Group Admin, Cameron Cantly-Smith, who has encouraged a number of Classmates to join our group, since becoming a Group Admin, in 2017!!  Please message Cameron (see link above) if you'd like to be part of our facebook Group!!

Notice & Thank-you...

I am doing okay, but we all need to review our lifestyle every now and then, as well as how much time and service one person can realistically put into our year's Social Media Networking.
It's vitally important to me that those Classmates who have good ideas have the same equal opportunity to serve as I have since our Scotch 82 facebook page Social Media Adventure started to come together, following our 30 year reunion in 2012.
I am extremely grateful for the confidence that has been placed in me to help get our Social Media Networking opportunities up and running, and it is wonderful to see Classmates further exploring what they can do to help each other make it to our next 10 year reunion, in 2022.
As successful Scotch 82 Businessmen, I feel our Scotch 82 Businesses Group will be able to continue to share articles and experiences with other group members, and provide help and advice as seen fit, or perhaps take this group will head in a direction I may not be able to foresee presently, due to personal changes I feel I need to make!
I gave notice on the 8th of May (this year) that I'd like to see my Scotch 82 Businesses Group Admin commitments through to the end of this Calendar Year, 2018.
Thanks to everyone involved for helping make our group a successful space to explore the Business Opportunities that have been shared, so far, and I look forward to staying a group member and continuing on our Social Media Adventure together, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022.
Thank-you Cameron Cantley-Smith and David Klinger for giving me an opportunity again this year to be apart of our Scotch 82 Businesses Group as an Admin, and to respond to David Klinger's original Action Request.
I'll finish up by wishing Cameron, David, and our group as a whole, continued success, and look forward to any ideas Group Members would like to share about the group's present format, and future direction!
God bless, with love,
Mick

SCOTCH 82 ACTIVE ADMINS GROUP REVIEW

Picture of Old East Melbourne Tuckshop credit -> https://www.facebook.com/oldscotchboys/photos/a.780289885362158/1790374901020313/?type=3&theater

Regarding Get-togethers, and future of our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group...

I'll happily continue to be involved in helping Create Opportunities to involve those who haven't been to a 10 Year Reunion, so far, or who are having difficulties with identifying OSCA's Pastoral Care and Support Options, according to OSCA's Current Strategic Plan (see OSCA's Annual Reports -> https://oscanet.com.au/#annualreports), looking ahead to 2019.
In 2019, along with our Active Admins, I will endeavor to put together a blog that consists mainly of the content from the Pastoral Care related Posts from our Scotch 82 facebook page, as well as what I've personally learned from having contact with our OSCA (Honourary) Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer.
That means, if Classmates have had contact with OSCA, and didn't get the Pastoral Care Response they'd hoped for, then I will continue to help to Build Bridges.
Peer Group Get-togethers take place, in addition to our Annual BBQ/Campfire Get-together, but these are different to a Year Group Get-together, for the purposes of helping our Classmates who are struggling to Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite with our Year, Scotch College, OSCA, and our greater Scotch Family.
If Classmates who has been to a Reunion want to help with next year's Get-together, then I'll very much appreciate the help, and would love everyone to feel that your help is very welcome!!  In this way, if you are willing to support other's to make our 40 Year Reunion, then your Support will be much appreciated!
I believe encouraging Classmates to be actively involved in our years Pastoral Care is an important consideration for us all, looking ahead to our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022 (see Scotch 82 Rowers Reunite below).
Also, I'd like to thank all the Members of our Active Admins who have helped create an environment where we've been able to plan out our "Scotch 82 Reformat" to include Guidelines.
Furthermore, our brother group to Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group - Scotch College Class of 1982 (Secret) Group - has also been a similarly fantastic environment for helping plan out our current "Function Integration", see Scotch 82 Trust, Reformat, Guidelines, and Functional Integration above!

THANK-YOU MARK LEANER OUR GROUP MEMBERSHIP ADMIN!!

On behalf of our year, I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big "THANK-YOU!!" to our Scotch 82 Active Admin's Group Membership Admin, Mark Learner, who has provided heaps of encouragement and support again this year!!  Be sure to message Mark (see link above) if you'd like to be part of our Active Admin team!!
Finally, I apologize if I have inadvertently created a misunderstanding that may have caused internal conflicts for any of our Classmates about Scotch 82 facebook related "Events" (see this link ->  https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/events/) being an a kind of Alternative Reunion, and if this has made it difficult for anyone thinking of joining our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group!
The Events section of our Scotch 82 facebook website/page can be viewed by our Scotch Family, and the public, so this year we have taken steps to address any privacy concerns raised about our Get-together's location.

God bless, with love,
Mick

Scotch 82 Rowers Reunite

Our 1981 Fourth VIII, consisting of J. C. Randall (Cox), C. J. Havre (Str), S. W. Parks (7), A. C. McLean (6), A. J. Douglas (5), R. J. Stock (4), R. M. Porter (3), J. R. Russell (2), and D. H. Hardie (Bow), took to the Scotch Straight for a "Light Paddle", to quote Jim Randall on Instgram recently!

Scotch 82's, Christopher Havre, wrote for OSCANews: "It wasn’t long with the aid of social media, the OSCA website and the old school network, before the crew and coaches were located and on board... What a great sport and what a great day…"

Thanks very much to Jane Parks (Scott Parks trainer) for heaps of Crew action moments caught for our viewing pleasure, in their newly created facebook group below!!
Great effort by the crew to get along to Scotch and check out The Cardinal Club, as well as have a "BBQ and Bevy", close by our 40 Year Reunion venue, as a way of keeping in touch.

Scotch 82 Analytics, Milestone 3 & New Narrative

Geoff Marum and I came up with the idea of starting a facebook page, that would help the two of us "keep the conversation going".

It has been my very great Honour and Privilege to collaborate with as many of our Classmates' as possible, to entertain and respond to idea's for how our Scotch 82 facebook website/page might look and how it might function, and especially with all our Classmates having an Equal Opportunity, in mind.

This has lead to Milestone 1 (see https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/507708256027214/?type=3&theater), Milestone 2 (see https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/645013005630071/?type=3&theater ), and a Reformat (scheduled to conclude in May 2019) of our Scotch 82 facebook website/page to now include Guidelines, all with the intention of keeping the conversation going on an Equal Opportunity basis.

It's my continued belief that Social Media has empowered a New Narrative to not only begin between our Classmates, but also within the Scotch Family, about how we can utilize Social Media themes.  This means that we will continue to be open to further ideas, and we will keep speaking up in 2019!

A great many of the OSCA affiliated Clubs now embrace the idea that Social Media is a major opportunity for the Scotch Family to engage in a New Narrative too, and this now also includes our "OSCA Young Old Boys" getting involved (OSCA YOBs facebook page -> https://www.facebook.com/oscayobs).

The Old Scotch Football Club has provided a tremendous amount of feedback to the Scotch Family about Inclusiveness and Equality, and continues to provide leadership to OSCA about how Sporting Clubs, outside of our Scotch Family, also believe that New Narrative initiatives are important for the Mental Health of Local Community.

Take a look and listen to how a New Narrative is being created at our Old Scotch Football Club, featuring Scotch 81's Ian Hill, and other Inclusive Clubs Representatives (by clicking the link in the caption of the image below)!!

An OSCA Club that unashamedly Supports and Care's for Old Boys, the OSFC is leading the Scotch Family towards greater connection with the wider Australian Community Standards on Social Media Pastoral Care!!
Congratulations to The Cards and Stars!! ❤️💛💙💚

Furthermore, our Old Scotch FC has followed the lead of our very own Mo Bro, Michael Jones, and created a "Mo Space" of their own this year -> https://moteam.co/old-scotch-football-club?mc=1

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how our OSCA Young Old Boys go about utilizing a Committee Format, OSCA Mentoring, as well as having OSCA personally and directly involved their Inclusive Committee Planning process.

Milestone 3, therefore, may need to be put back until we have got enough of our Scotch 82 Analytics up and running to include the potential leadership that our OSCA Young Old Boys can provide our Scotch Family, as they help to shape the Scotch Family's New Narrative with the digital future in mind.  Further considerations are also considered in OSCA Constitution + Annual Get-together Review, below.

Our Scotch 82 Analytics is has 3 Major Parts that focus on different aspects of the Scotch Family's New Narrative.  Part A of this blog will be about "Friendships", supported by our Scotch 82 Social Media Initiatives, including Expectations and Results.

Part B, will be about "Communicating with OSCA", and if a New Narrative has been possible with OSCA, and if Scotch 82 has encouraged our Classmates to Speak Up.

Part C, will come into focus as we progress through 2019, following the completion of our Scotch 82 Reformat, and how we might continue to go about best helping our Classmates Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we begin to Count Down the months to our next 10 Year Reunion.

40 Months Reunion XL Count Down Begins in May 2019, and

Do yourself a favour!!  From May 2019 be aware that a 40 Month Count Down will begin to our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022, and God willing, the clock won't stop from ticking before then.  :D

Reunion XL stands for Reunion 40, or 40 Year Reunion, or maybe 40 Years On for others, but can we expect an Xtra Large turnout on the Night??  Guess we'll have to wait and see how our 40 Year Reunion Committee and OSCA's Event Managements' Planning brings it all about!  Hopefully, with all of our year pitching in, and with the help of Social Media, it will be our best Reunion so far!!

I, Michael Arnott, therefore Propose a New Album for our Scotch 82 facebook page called "Scotch 82 (Reunion XL)", and with there being no objections from any of our Classmates, this will be created in 2019.

"Scotch 82 (Reunion XL)" will contain Posts relating specifically to our 40 Year Reunion, like where OSCA have decided it will be held and Reunion Location related news, who our Reunion Committee is, what our Reunion Committee Responsibilities are, and of course anything at all that our Classmates might like to add to the enhance the Celebration, and eventually our Official Invitation; you know, that sort of stuff!

SCOTCH 82 ANALYTICS AND POSTING GUIDE.

LINK TO BE ADDED -> https://scotch82analytics.blogspot.com

Our Scotch 82 Analytics and Posting Guide goes a little deeper into the different types of Posts we've been using on our facebook page to gauge, and how we might measure the effectiveness of communication between our Classmates with our facebook page and group initiatives, our Classmates and OSCA's Social Media and Pastoral Care Planning, as well as providing 'tangible' support for those reconciling with Scotch College.

AS A MEANS OF FEEDBACK!!

Our year has done a great job using Social Media as part of OSCA's ongoing review of it's effectiveness of engaging with Old Boys.  Engaging, or Communicating, using Social Media, provides OSCA with some excellent feedback from the Scotch Family, and by using a Like Comment Share Analysis approach, this is another way of ensuring our Classmates have a greater say in what is of interest to them.

As a way of further helping OSCA with feedback, in 2019, we will share OSCA's facebook page Posts from the following Categories:

MENS (MENTAL) HEALTH*
SURVEY*
CIRCA 1982*
CHRISTMAS*
REMEMBRANCE DAY*
FATHERS DAY*
MOTHERS DAY*
ANZAC DAY*
EASTER*
CHINESE NEW YEAR*
AUSTRALIA DAY (if Posted)
HAPPY NEW YEAR*

In our 2019 End of Year Wrap, we will be able to make further adjustments, if necessary, to the Categories highlighted in our Posting Guide, as a result of further feedback provided from our Classmates.

Having a Posting Guide is also a further way of assisting Classmates adjust to having Scotch 82 Guidelines that promote Equal Opportunities for us all to identify the kind of Posts our year might respond positively too, using a Prototyping method.

OSCA Constitution Review 2019 + Annual Get-togethers Review

An email Request has been made to our Pastoral Care Influencers in OSCA's Senior Vice President, Andrew Wilson, our OSCA (Honourary) Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer, and our OSCA Executive Director, Scott Montgomery, for Clarification as to whether Year Group Get-togethers (as a function of Pastoral Care) is something that will continue to be encouraged, in years to come, leading up to our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022.

Although our Annual Get-togethers do not have a direct monetary cost to OSCA, the opening Paragraph to this Years "Equal Chief Editors Report", above, points out that a Review of Reunion Attendance may be needed, especially if the anecdotal evidence from our Annual Get-togethers, and in facebook groups, is anything to go by.

Finally, at this stage, I have not received any information about Year Group Committees, akin to the new Young Old BoyS initiative, receiving comprehensive OSCA Support for helping get an Invitation to "Missing Members" or if OSCA's New Constitution Supports Guidelines for leading/managing Year Group Initiatives, like Scotch 82 Social Media.

For there to be ongoing Equal Opportunities to have Clasmates Proposals discussed as a Year Group, using a Social Media setting like facebook, as an example, Guidelines have proven extremely important to helping identify Classmates Expectations and any Synergy Considerations with OSCA related Pastoral Care options, in my experience, so far.

Arriving at a Comprehensive Year Group Requirements Statement maybe beyond the current scope of our Scotch 82 Social Media Initiative, looking ahead to our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022, at this present stage.

It has become clear this year that the present OSCA Designated Responsibilities of a Year Group Reunion Committee does not currently include holding "Alternative Reunions" or "5 Year Reunions" on behalf of a Year Group, or a Peer Group that consists of Classmates within a Year Group, after leaving the Young Old BoyS age bracket.

Likewise, Year Group Social Media Initiatives also need to be Representative of  Year Groups, and not just a Peer Group, after leaving the Young Old BoyS age bracket.

To be fully Representative, an up to date Constitution is need to be able to allow for Year Group's to be heard on matters that are of varying degrees of importance, and whereby individual Classmates can be given Equal Opportunities to participate in discussion of Proposals put forward by any other member of Year Groups.

Therefore, perhaps our OSCA Reunion Committee could be given the opportunity to consider the OSCA YOBS use of a Committee Structure, as one possible way of creating further ongoing Equal Opportunities for Classmates Proposals to be discussed, now that Social Media provides YOBS with new communication opportunities, looking ahead to 2019.

The above Discusion Point (Forming a Scotch 82 Social Media Quorum) is therefore something that our Reunion Committee may want to take up with the rest of our Year Group, and therefore Mike Poynter, James Paterson, Ashley Murdoch, and Robert Stock, may want to make their thoughts known about "OSCA's Constitution Review 2019", using our current Social Media Initiative, as one possible discussion forum.

Thanks to Csaba Veres for this year's Christmas funny, that he recently posted on his wall; a classic Michael Leunig.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year in 2019.  Thank-you for the opportunity, privilege, and great honour to serve our year, and the Scotch Family!!

Please let me pray:

"Father God, thank-you that you are the God of relationships!  Thank-you that from your Son, Jesus Christ, we find the best possible example of a love based relationship with you.  Father, please help us to remain in your love, as we seek to work together to build friendships as a means of Scotch Family Pastoral Care.  Help us with wisdom, by the power of your Holy Spirit, to understand our responsibilities for providing feedback to OSCA and our Scotch Family, on how we might best fit into the Scotch College Master Plan, as well as the 2019 OSCA Constitution Review.  Thank-you God for all the friendship reconnecting, and new friendships that are being built, via Social Media!  And we give you the glory! Hallelujah - thank-you for the birth Jesus our Lord and Saviour!!  In Jesus name, Amen!"

Looking forward to catching up again in 2019!!

your servant,

Mick Arnott
